The Embassy of India in Tunis highlighted Ayurveda as a living bridge between India and Tunisia through the celebration of “Ayurveda & Tourism Day 2025”, held on September 23, coinciding with both National Ayurveda Day in India and World Tourism Day.

The event, organized by the Embassy with support from the Ministry of AYUSH and Tunisian partners, gathered policymakers, wellness professionals, travel agencies, and investors under the theme “Ayurveda for People and Planet.” It showcased Ayurveda not only as an ancient healing system but also as a catalyst for cooperation and sustainable tourism between India and Tunisia.

Speaking on the occasion, H.E. Dr. Devyani Uttam Khobragade, Ambassador of India to Tunisia, emphasized that Ayurveda represents “a timeless science of harmony between body, mind, and environment.” She noted that its philosophy resonates deeply with Tunisia’s own heritage of natural remedies and holistic living.

The celebration featured live demonstrations of Ayurvedic therapies, expert talks, and interactive sessions exploring how traditional health practices can inspire modern wellness industries. Participants discussed opportunities for joint training, academic collaboration, and wellness tourism, positioning Tunisia as an emerging player in the global wellness economy.

Ayurveda, recognized by the World Health Organization as a complete traditional health system, continues to gain international recognition. The Government of India has signed multiple cooperation agreements with global research institutions and supports the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar, reinforcing India’s leadership in natural and holistic health diplomacy.

Through the Embassy’s initiatives, Ayurveda has gained increasing visibility in Tunisia in recent years, particularly since 2019, when Tunisia participated for the first time in the Ayurveda Ambassadors Tour. Workshops, consultations, and wellness partnerships have since helped introduce Ayurvedic practices to Tunisian homes and wellness centers.

As Ambassador Khobragade remarked, “Ayurveda teaches us to live consciously — to respect the rhythms of nature and to find balance within ourselves. It is not only a medical system but a living philosophy that unites people across cultures.”

The Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to further strengthen Indo-Tunisian cooperation through cultural exchange, wellness education, and tourism development, underscoring Ayurveda’s growing role as a living heritage and a pathway to global well-being.
