An artistic and scientific event is being held at the Center of Arab and Mediterranean Music (Ennejma Ezzahra) in the perched, blue and white village of Sidi Bou Said. The event which was launched on April 7 , will run until April 11, 2008, is organized in collaboration with the Cultural Associations ‘Talia' (Belgium) and ‘Limma', from Constantine, Algeria, as well as the Department of Greek, Latin and Music Studies from the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy of Palermo. A colloquium dubbed “Places and spaces for musical en counters” is on the agenda and will witness the participation of several Tunisian and Sicilian ethnomusicologists. The colloquium will be centered on such themes as “ the zaouia (mausoleum) : a space dedicated to music”, “music and Italian communities in Tunis: the island of Djerba”, “ the Foundouqs of the Medina of Tunis” , “the songs of the Sicilian tuna fishermen” and the musical grammar of the songs of Italian cart drawers”.
Students from the laboratory of ethnomusicology of Faculty of Letters and Philosophy of Palermo, as well as other musicians, will perform in music and folk songs concerts.
On the sidelines of this event, the Tunisian Jazzman Fawzi Chekili, and the Belgian saxophonist, Pierre Vaiana accompanied by students from the Jazz School of the center of Arab and Mediterranean music of the University of Palermo, will lead various music workshops.
